Look up from your phone

I was captivated for the entire 4 minutes this video went for…I’m not sure how I feel about it though…

Look up from your phone…

I do definitely agree that we are striving for public affirmation and approval in almost everything we do…this is a human trait which has never changed over the years of heightened technology. I guess now however, it is simply more obvious and prevalent now that we have a means of displaying or checking in on our public approval daily and in some people’s cases, hourly.

Do you look up from your phone when on a bus, in line, on the way somewhere? I think sometimes people are simply not looking up from their phones because they are bored. Why are we bored, because we can’t bare to be present with our own selves. Doesn’t really make a huge amount of sense…but it’s true. If you’re waiting in line, on a bus, walking somewhere, waiting for anything…the thought of just being present within yourself…giving attention to your precious body and self makes some of us uncomfortable…it’s easier to just jump on your phone, check your Facebook, your emails, your social media, maybe play a game…but never just sit…and watch the trees or clouds…make shapes in your mind…give attention to your heart…love yourself…

Did you know that something like 80% of people who use Facebook regularly actually check their Facebook before their feet even hit the floor in the morning? I make a point off turning our phones, devices and wifi before bed every night and leaving anything that uses electricity or a battery out of our bedroom entirely. Yes, that means clocks, alarms, bed lamps…nothing comes in the bedroom other than us. Why? We simply don’t need it and I can guarantee you will sleep better and wake up so much more refreshed. Give your home and your body a rest when it’s meant to be resting, you are exposed to all that junk all day…at least for 8 hours of your day, your whole being and environment can take some time out.

Are our phones really that bad?

So, what about all the people we are now connected to via Facebook and other social media that we may not have been before. We have the ability to contact almost anyone on the planet due to social media. Celebrities used to be out of reach but now anyone with access to wifi can be contacted. Perhaps the technology is not to blame but we just need to find a balance. Use the amazing medium to our advantage, use it to connect with the world but be aware of those whom we love, including ourselves and sometimes, when we can bare it, to reach out and connect with real humans around us, our family, friends and most importantly, be with ourselves for a while…x
